Interesting Peanut trivia: Consistent is the word

Peanut’s southern terminus-to-Kennedy Meadows hike, south to north, was 702 miles, according to the Halfmile PCT map.

Counting the “zero” days that she rested, it took her 33 days to complete that section of the PCT.

Great customer service from MSR

Sometimes companies go above and beyond and you just have to give them a huge shout out.

That is the case this week with Mountain Safety Research (MSR).

Peanut’s home for five months on the PCT is an MSR Hubba Hubba NX tent. A few days ago, she broke a tent pole (duct tape is holding it together now) and asked me to contact REI to buy a new one. REI does not sell replacement poles but gave me the contact information for MSR.

It’s a small world on the PCT

After two days of no cell service, Leanne checked in at 8:20 a.m. PDT on Thursday. She started hiking at 6:01 a.m. and had covered seven miles in 2 hours, 20 minutes.

Her goal was to meet up with her brother Scott at the KOA Campground in Acton, Calif., no later than 11 a.m. on Friday. She is looking forward to taking a shower and washing her clothes. She may or may not spend the night in Acton, depending on how she is feeling. I told her to spend the night, enjoy some rest and the swimming pool at the KOA.

On top of Mount Baden Powell

Leanne just sent a text via her GPS. She is sitting near the summit of Mount Baden Powell at an altitude of 9,248 feet.

Zooming in on her location showed some very steep terrain. In her words via text: “That was one tough climb.” After resting near the summit, she was on the move again.

I’m sure that she’ll have some amazing pictures to post when she has a cell signal.

350 miles down, 2,309 to go

Leanne checked in at 9:20 a.m. PDT. She is well-rested and heading to Wrightwood, Calif., today (about 21 miles).

She started on the PCT at 6 this morning and had gone eight miles in her first three hours.

She just hit the 350-mile mark of the trail and saw just two other hikers this morning. She’ll post more pictures and comments this evening.
